Freedom from Hoarding Disorder 1: Lightbulb Moment
Note: The articles in this series were originally posted on Better, like others on this website. But unlike the others, which I have slightly edited for this new context, I have decided to leave these just as they were. I’m putting at the top of each the date of original publication. Although they go back a couple of years already, I would still really appreciate your fresh engagement and contributions in the comments!

A few months ago, through listening to some podcasts and reading some articles, I had the revelation that I have hoarding disorder – as in, a mental health issue that has now its own separate category in the DSM-V.
I also realized that, without even being aware of it, I was already engaged in a recovery process! 😊 (Sending love and blessings to KonMari and all the people of the internet who have taken to decluttering and minimalism and turned it into a global obsession! 😄💖)
I am wondering if there are any people around here who are on the same journey? I would love to share stories and encouragement!
A little information on the hoarding disorder: it doesn’t mean that your house looks like in those TV programs. It is more to do with how difficult it is to part with things, and how, if left unchecked, the accumulation of objects continues endlessly. It also refers to how normal life is severely affected by the clutter. It’s also very closely associated with depression and anxiety.
I have made great strides forward, and the way I live today in regards to clutter is miles better off compared to 10 years ago.
There is also a great, great difference in my mental wellbeing. I am so happy and grateful to be advancing on the path of healing. Improving my mental health and decluttering are now going hand in hand.
But there is still lots to do, and it’s great to have this community for encouragement and support! 😊 Harnessing the powers of our Tendencies gives us a great boost!
Looking forward to hearing your decluttering stories! What has set you in motion? Where are you in the journey? I'd love to hear about how you envision your clutter-free life! What does it mean for your house to be decluttered? Will you have just a toothbrush and a bed? 😅 Will you still have decorations on the shelf? I want to hear it all! 💗
