Wanting what God wants

This past week I have been thinking and thinking about what comes next, after considering our identity in Christ, and God’s own identity and character: growing in our hearts the desires which correspond to God’s desires for us.

However, I am not done thinking. That’s most probably why my several attempts at writing out something coherent and useful haven’t worked out. So, maybe in the future I will be able to edit this post and add in something that’s organized and helpful.

For now, I would like to direct you to a piece of writing far more worthy of your time than anything I could ever produce, and invite you to read, or re-(re-re-)read, The Weight of Glory, an essay by C.S. Lewis (originally given as a sermon) on the theme of desire. In the very improbable case you haven’t got it in a book on your shelf (I know, shocking to suspect such a thing!) you can find it within this free ebook here. And over here there’s a really good and easy to follow summary.

Lewis’s concept of ‘desire’ is the one that has informed my own thinking, and whenever you see me talking about it on this site, that’s what it’s all about. Since people whose natural instinct is to resist expectations cannot count on them to propel them forward on their way, Desire is their one and only hope. A lot of us, however, like our culture as a whole, are very confused nowadays on the subject of desire. Lewis’s writings do an amazing job at bringing clarity. Enjoy. 💗
